• Basmati Rice : Washed and Soaked
  • Whole garam masala
  • (cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, pepper)
  • Ginger-Garlic paste : 1 tsp
  • Onions : 1, chopped lengthwise
  • Shahjeera : ? tsp
  • Bay Leaves : few
  • Mint(optional) : 2 tsp, finely chopped
  • Cilantro : 2 tsp, finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder : little
  • Garam masala powder : ? tsp
  • Dhaniya powder : 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Oil / Ghee


  • Heat Ghee . Add Shahjeera, whole garam masala and bay leaves.
  • Now add the chopped onions, fry till they turn little brown, and add ginger-garlic paste.
  • Fry for a while then add all the dry masala?s along with mint and cilantro.
  • Fry till the raw flavor of the masala?s vanish.
  • Now add the soaked rice, mix well and pour in water (preferably hot water).
  • Close lid, let it cook on high flame for a while when water evaporates a little. Stir then lower the flame and close the lid tightly and cook till done.
