What is Tuberculosis?
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and can affect any organ in the body but it is mainly affect the lungs.
When this microorganism reached the lungs by inhalation, one out of ten persons will be affected with active TB.
In the normal cases the immune system will prevent activation of this disease. While it will be activated due to any disease that affect the immune system (such as AIDS).
Transmission
Tuberculosis transmitted by inhalation of the causative microorganism, for that reason endemic and crowd areas should be avoided.
Symptoms
The most common symptom of tuberculosis is persistent cough with yellowish green sputum. Other symptoms include weight loss, fever and chest pain.
Treatment
To treat tuberculosis the patient must completely follow the instruction about the time of administrating the medications and the duration of the therapy which is range between six months and two years.
If the patient shows poor compliance, the microorganism will develop a resistant against these medications and the disease will need more complicated treatment.
