How to Put On a Condom 1

Having sex, whether with someone new or someone you have been with for a while, has consequences that you should be concerned with. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV are also something that you should be concerned with, especially if you are with someone new or are not in a completely committed relationship. Condoms can be an easy and inexpensive method of protection, but it is important that it is used correctly or it cannot do its job. Whether you are male or female, you need to know how to put a condom on correctly. Just sliding it on without making sure that it is on right will not allow it to give you maximum protection. Handle With Care. Unwrapping a condom is something that you need to be careful with, as condoms can tear if you are not careful. Fingernails, jewelry, or other sharp things can put a tiny hole in the condom, keeping it from being as protective as possible. In addition, you want to be sure that your condom is fresh and hasn?t been exposed to heat and/or cold. One that you have carried around in your billfold for years may not be the best choice. You want to be sure that you are using a condom that will not split or crack during normal use.

Full or Partial Erection. A condom should be put on a penis that has a full or partial erection. A non-erect penis will not be easy to get into a condom and may not slip on right. Make sure that there is not any contact between you and your partner?s body before you put the condom on or they could be risk of transmitting disease or even pregnancy.

Proper Use. It is important to leave some space in the end of the condom for the ejaculate to gather. Pinching the end of the condom while slipping it on is a good way to leave this room. Roll the condom onto the penis as far down the base of the penis as you can. The roll of excess condom material should be on the outside-this helps it to stay up. If the condom rolls down while having sex, roll it back down the penis. If it comes off entirely, remove the condom and put a new one onto the penis.

Finishing Up. Once ejaculation has occurred, it is important that while pulling the penis out of the vagina to hold the condom onto the penis to keep it from sliding off. The penis should be withdrawn while still erect to keep the condom from leaking. Properly dispose of it by wrapping it in toilet paper and throwing it into a garbage can.

By using a condom correctly, it can increase your chances of protection from disease and/or pregnancy. Handling it with care, putting it on a full or partial erection, putting it on correctly, and making sure that you remove it correctly can make the different between being protected and not protected. Be sure you learn how to put on a condom for you and for your partner.
