The Pregnant Woman's Bartending Guide 1

Alcohol is a “no-no” during pregnancy, so for those of us who enjoy drinking it can be a challenge. Whether you are entertaining or just need a refreshing drink on a summer afternoon – here are some divine non-alcoholic choices:

  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice
  • ½ tsp. blackstrap molasses
  • 1 cup ginger beer/ale

Pour ginger beer, lime juice and molasses over ice. Stir well. Garnish with lime.

Mock Mojito

  • 4-5 sprigs of mint
  • 1 lime
  • 1 oz. simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, bring to boil and then simmer until sugar dissolves – allow to cool)
  • 6-8 oz. soda water

Muddle mint and simple syrup in a glass. Add ice. Add half the lime and stir in soda water. Garnish with lime and mint.

  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 6 oz. cranberry juice
  • 1 oz. simple syrup (see recipe above)

Mix salt and sugar in a shallow bowl. Moisten the rim of the glass and dip into the mixture. In a separate bowl, muddle the cucumber with a dash of salt. Shake the muddled cucumber, cranberry juice, simple syrup and lime juice in a shaker with ice. Strain into the prepared glass filled with ice.

Geisha tea

  • ¼ oz. ginger syrup (see simple syrup recipe above, but add a knob of ginger)
