These are the rewards that make it easy to get hooked on walking. And there’s no reason to stop, either, not pregnancy, having children, burn-out, injury, or even aging. With treadmills and mall walking – or just some good foul weather gear – even bad weather isn’t an obstacle. I guess that’s what I mean when I say that walking is a lifelong activity. With walking you’re set for life. So are you ready? Let’s get hooked!
When you’re ready to start that walk towards a healthier lifestyle, you’ll want to be as prepared as possible. Here are a few tips that will get you headed in the right direction.

These Shoes are Made for Walkin’

1. Be sure to use your walking shoes for just that – WALKING. Nothing could be worse for walking shoes than a lot of lateral motion, like basketball, tennis and volleyball.

2. Cleaning your shoes is just as important as changing the tires on your car. Keeping shoes clean will add miles to their lives. DO NOT throw your shoes in the washing machine. Instead use a damp cloth, and wipe not only the leather but be sure the tread is also clean.

3. Never use dryers or heaters to dry wet walking shoes. Direct heat can break down the cements that hold shoes together.
