How to Rest

How to Rest 1

From the title, you’re probably wondering why you’re even reading today’s entry because you are a master of resting. But what I want to discuss today is how to give your body the proper care and rest it needs as part of a rigorous health program.

Proper rest is essential because rest time is when your body is working to rebuild muscle tissue. It’s also time to recoup mental energy and keep the drive you need to stay motivated. If you’re continually exercising, you’re likely to overwork your muscles and challenge your motivation to continue at the same level. In other words, you’re going to burn yourself out.

But, at the same time, when you rest you don’t need to sit on the sofa and watch television. You can relax by taking a nice long walk, or by partaking in some activity that keeps you moving without subjecting you to intense exercise. It could be something like playing golf or even going fishing. Anything where you’re active and moving is better than something where you’re passive and sedentary.

It’s also vital that you get the care your body needs. This includes medical care, chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage, and other services that promote healing in the body. Be sure to address the body’s needs. You’ll get much more from your workouts if your spine, for example, is in good shape as well. Ignoring medical conditions or other illness/injury is going to distract or impair your fitness progress.
